Design Notes

WARM WITHOUT OVERHEATING:

Thermal clothing works by trapping pockets of air, which your body then heats. For the Fitzroy Jacket, we chose an insulation that will keep you warm between 5-15°C, the sweet spot for most of the year.

If the temperature drops, pair the Fitzroy Jacket with a windproof layer on top. It’ll stop warm air from escaping and see you through colder days.

Down insulation only works in the dry. Here in Northern Europe, that’s wishful thinking. We’ve used a recycled synthetic alternative that’ll still work in the wet.

THE QUILTING RUNS NORTH TO SOUTH:

The vertical stitching isn’t just about the way it looks, although we do love the clean lines. The quilt panels follow the shape of your body and move with you, making it more comfortable when you’re behind the wheel, catching a flight, or halfway up a windswept hill.

These channels allow warm air to circulate and balance any cold spots - regulating your temperature inside the jacket. A detail you'll appreciate when on the move.

A DURABLE OUTER:

Here’s the thing… most quilted jackets use ultra-light shell fabrics. In our experience, these catch and tear easily. Packable, yes. Suited to a busy life on the move? Not really.

The Fitzroy Jacket is different. We’ve used nylon for the outer - a fibre that’s strong, quick-drying, and resistant to wear. Since the 1930s, it’s been used to make parachutes, ropes, and backpacks - products built to perform.

The fabric we chose is water-resistant with a matt finish, so it doesn’t look shiny or synthetic. The inside is lined with cotton, and feels great when worn over a t-shirt.
