ORKNEY SCARF

The Orkney is made at one of the last vertical wool mills in the UK – founded in 1837, and still family run. We’ve made the scarf long enough to wrap, wear with a knot, or fold in half and loop through.

When it comes to keeping warm, nothing beats Merino. Its soft fibres have a crimped, zig-zag structure. Spin them into yarn and they create tiny air pockets that your body heats  - trapping warm air and insulating against the cold. Merino also wicks moisture into the core of the fibre, so even when the wool is damp it still feels warm against your skin. Handy if you’re out all day and the weather turns.

For the Orkney Scarf we designed a two-tone diagonal stripe. Here are a few notes on the colours we choose:

INDIGO / RUST:
This colourway feels like driving on a motorway at dusk; yellow, red and amber lights, the sun just below the horizon, every shade of blue as the sky deepens into night. The indigo is calm, the rust cuts through. It’s hard to put this colour into words - which is what makes it so interesting.

CHARCOAL / STONE:
Here, we’ve dialled up the contrast so the diagonal pattern becomes the feature. Charcoal and stone are easy to pair with anything. This is the one to go for if you don’t want to think too hard, but want a scarf that still has something to say.

FOREST / MOSS:
This deep green and softer, mossy tone are a nod to the ever-changing hills and forests that surround our studio in Somerset. It adds a bit of colour to an outfit without feeling loud – the kind of green that looks at home in the city, or on a muddy lane.
