Portland : Testing The Hockliffe MkII

A first look at the prototype Hockliffe Jacket, photographed on a test trip to the Isle of Portland whilst working on the design at the roadside.

Product testing is an essential part of our design process. To ensure the details on the updated Hockliffe Overshirt MkII were functioning properly, we waited for clear summer day before riding down to the Isle of Portland. While making notes at the side of the road, we snapped a few photos of the prototype to show how things are progressing.

The first major change is the collar; we’ve simplified the design to avoid the collar points flapping when riding at speed (or the need for a fastening tab to secure them). Bar tacks between the buttons strengthen the zip that runs along the front opening.

On the back, you can see the concept ‘wind-release’ seam that we’ve been developing. This allows air to exit the garment without the bulk of a conventional zipped vent - making the overshirt more comfortable to wear. It’s the first time a seam construction like this has been used in protective motorcycle clothing.

We’ve added discreet welt hand-warmer pockets into the side seam. This makes the MkII that much more useful off the bike / around camp, without compromising the clean look that made the original Hockliffe so popular.

The close-up on the last image shows the articulated, two-panel sleeve - shaped to follow the curve of the arm while leaving space for the elbow armour.

There’s so much going into this design that it soon became clear that the Hockliffe MkII was no longer a simple overshirt. To give this design the recognition it deserves, we have re-named it the HOCKLIFFE JACKET. The first batch will be limited to 150 and so, if interested, we’d recommend reserving yours soon.
