I’m writing this review earnestly……. It’s not usual for a company to have the good common sense to wait a reasonable period of time before requesting an opinion and that impressed me as much as the product!
This knife is perfect. It’s robust but aesthetically appealing as well. The brass scales get better all the time and I must confess that due to constant use I have taken to giving them a lick of Brasso from time to time. The blade itself is a Rodgers of Sheffield blade, that alone elevates this piece to another level as Rodgers have a recognised history dating way back as Master Cutlers.
I carry the knife on a heavy brass chain connected to my belt, that’s just me and I would hate to lose this knife. I would certainly buy it again although truth be told, I will never have to!
I have had my Blakeney Knife since before lockdown, so I have had time to test it. As an engineer it's usually in my pocket every working day, and some days at home. It's a reliable old friend, works perfectly every time I use it and the sharpness lasted a lot longer than I expected so sharpening has been at a minimum, in a nutshell I’d thoroughly recommend.
My Grandfather gave me my first pocket knife when I was just 6 years old, (I am now 64). Since then I have always carried a pocket knife and feel naked without one. This is my ‘go to’ everyday carry and I love it so much I bought one for my son (a serving Firefighter) and a spare one just in case I lose mine and Ashley stops stocking them. A simple, "no nonsense" design, robust, functional, tactile and beautifully made. Also, it just gets better looking with age and a bit of patina. This is heirloom quality, you won't be disappointed.
Truth be known, one is on to one's second Blakeney knife… only because the first one got lost! So good it had to be replaced. Succinctly quality. Very well made, the brass casing gives a good positive feel in the hand with its weight and profile. When the blade is opened out in position for use, there is no sloppiness or "play" and it's sharp. Great to use in the kitchen, garden and workshop. Definitely worth the investment.
A solid addition to any tool kit, stylish and well made - manufactured to a high spec. It’s so good I’m going to order another one.
This is a simple but very well crafted single blade pocket knife based on the British Army knife. It is made by Rodgers of Sheffield with a polished stainless sheepsfoot blade that has no wobble and a good snap without breaking the finger nails. As it had army spec scales it was designed to be opened with gloves on. The brass scales are satin finished with the Ashley Watson logo. The brass ages to a nice patina with use, it is very sharp but doesn't feel threatening so feel free to cut Grandma a slice of pork pie. If they become available again maybe I shall buy another for best.
As a maker and craftsman I often find the need to open cut or whittle things. This knife is excellent; well up to these jobs and when sharpened, holds an edge. Nice in the hand and just slips in a pocket. What more could I want?
The Blakeney knife is a fantastic product. It is crafted with real precision. And yet can be used for everyday activities. Small enough to be carried with ease. The design reflects real heritage with reference to military design. It is perfect for everyday adventures.
I've had my Blakeney knife for nearly three years; it's always with me. As a farmer, I always need a knife close at hand. In that time, it has become a valued companion and friend. That might sound a bit cheesy, but it's done much work and is still tight and well-put together. The quality of the blade is second to none, even after multiple sharpening... I'm sure there are many jobs and years ahead
Very nice legal carry knife. Blade has stayed sharp despite regular use and the brass outer shell is also still in great condition, probably needs a clean! Stylish and practical. Pleased with my purchase.
I have been looking for a quality pocket knife for some time, as my current long-owned knife is due for retirement. The Blakeney knife arrived in the post yesterday and it truly is a beautiful, quality knife that will last more than my lifetime. Thank you, Ashley. Great work.
Superb knife. Very well made with a lovely solid brass handle. The epitome of British (Sheffield) knife making. The world of pocket knives has gone mad with fancy steels and exotic handles. All you need is something well-made and functional. The Blakeney knife is just that - 100%. It arrived well-packed and the best bit...razor sharp straight out of the box. So good... I am going to order another one!
A top quality knife. It handles well, is compact enough to carry easily and has a razor-sharp blade.
Pre-ordered this piece based on the promised description of high quality made in small batches by UK manufacturer. Item received last week and I was not disappointed. The Blakeney is a lovely small pocket knife that has been engineered and manufactured to high standards. The solid brass handles are just wonderful. Great piece of kit Mr Watson.
delighted with this little knife, it is magic :) Superb work, I am happy to be a privileged owner of this beautiful object. Thank you.
What a great Sheffield work of art. Really impressed, classy, artisan and bombproof. Looking forward to handing it done to my Grandkids, this Knife should last forever. It will remain as a permanent part of my camping/Bike packing and Motorcycle touring set-up. I especially like the small aspects that clearly show it's handmade and not just thrown off a production line. Thumbs up from me.
Pure British engineering & design, this is a solid blade and can be used for everyday adventures. Took me a long time to find a great pocket knife and this one is Made in England. Ashley Watson provides superb customer service, definitely get yourself one soon before they are all gone!
The Blakeney Knife has a Bauhaus quality - the look and feel of steel and brass beautifully melded together where form follows function and nothing is wasted. It feels just right in the hand open or closed, being nicely balanced and weighted. The brass quickly takes on a patina that makes it very personal the more it’s handled.
For me, the Blakeney Knife is a wonderful companion in my man's bag, reduced to the essentials of a knife and made of pure material.
You can sometimes only appreciate a quality object when standing in front of it, or holding it in your hand, but because it was coming from Ashley Watson I knew I could order the Blakeney knife without hesitation. I got mine (delivered to the US) last week, as promised and opened the package like a 12 year old on Christmas morning. I was not let down, quite the opposite really. I love this knife and I’ll carry it with me on every trip.
Wanted a new pocket knife & saw this one modelled on an army knife. From the pre-order (to help suppliers) to the great product & fantastic note with the penny/custom history about knives with the quality knife, what an amazing buying experience!
Very handsome and well made. Nice heft and the knife came razor sharp. The brass scales are already taking on a bit of patina. Very pleased.
Sharp in form and function. I absolutely love this knife. Already working on a solid patina and hope it can be passed down through generations.
Exactly as advertised. Beautiful, durable, incredibly sharp, and just the right size and shape for everyday tasks like slicing open shipping boxes, or cutting along a straightedge. Craftsmanship at such a high level in this day and age is always a joy, but when it’s this affordable as well, one is tempted to call it a miracle...
Great packaging and presentation. This product blew me away with its simplicity and elegance, it feels great in the hand. The brass gets more patina from the oils in your skin the more you hold it. It’s become my everyday carry, even tho I work from home. Just wish it had a number to show it was from one of the first 100 batch! I remember my grandfather always having this one pocket knife in his pocket for so many years, this pocket knife will be mine for years to come. Thank you Ashley for making the effort to create something great that will last a lifetime!
This is a well-made knife with an excellent blade and a sturdy overall feel. At the same time it’s small enough to easily pack away, it’s light and the action is solid. If you need a few snicks to help with maintenance or if you want to sit and whittle this is a good blade.
The essence of good design: everything you need and nothing you don’t. It’s exactly what I’ve come to expect from anything AW, and I’m looking forward to years of use and brass patina.
Fast shipping, really good product! Totally recommend it, it’s a must have.
As it says on the tin. This knife is true craftsmanship to an engineering specification. Excellent finish. It has a very comfortable and strong feel. When the blade is opened it holds a positive position for the task. Not in use, the knife carried on a belt clip just inside a front pocket is comfortable. An investment.
