I own several AW products, and this new jacket has exceeded my expectations, but that's no surprise, as AW strives for perfection in my humble opinion. The jacket is light, comfortable, and VERY well made. I can wear any of my other vintage-style jackets over this product and I know I'm protected while riding my motorcycles. HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for premium riding gear that delivers.
Today for the first time I used my Hockliffe jacket in anger as up to now weather has dictated I wear my most wonderful Eversholt MkII. They have both in a very short time become old friends whom I would never want to ride without, definitely motorcycle jackets for Motorcyclists. The Hockliffe does everything Ashley promised plus you ride your bike feeling like you’re wearing a favourite comfortable sports jacket that just happens to be AAA rated. Love it.
With the Hockliffe Jacket MkII Ashley Watson has created the ultimate in summer motorcycling wear. Other jackets are too hot, too cold, too roomy, or too tight, often featuring unwieldy armour and large, vivid patches of high-visibility yellow and other reflective materials. But, let’s be honest, how many of these features do you actually need? Ashley’s first version of the Hockliffe sold out a few years ago and with good reason - everyone who was fortunate to try one on went on to buy one, a testament to the saying ‘if it looks right, it is right’.
With the new Hockliffe Ashley has created something which is stylish, functional and above all, elegant. Elegance in motorcycling clothing is virtually non-existent, it’s always function over style, even for the big boys such as Rukka and Klim. What you get with the new jacket is a coat that doesn’t scream ‘Armour’, ‘Visibility’ and above all, ‘Biker’. Ashley makes clothing for the discerning motorcyclist, the one who stands out from the crowd, the one who takes the road less travelled.
Realistically, if you want to be part of the herd then this isn’t the jacket for you. If you enjoy meandering down obscure back-roads on an extremely unfashionable motorcycle to places where the beauty is in the landscape and being on the bike then this garment needs to be part of your lifestyle choice. But if you need to be part of a crowd of people who are all dressed virtually the same then you need something else. This is probably the jacket for the loner, who knows the best routes, with the best views and sunrises or sunsets, the rider who sits by the lake or waterfall watching the clouds and the sky, the rider who seeks out the extraordinary. You ride a bike to be different, so why look like all the rest? With the lines of the new Hockliffe you get a perfect fit both on and off the bike and a jacket that is comfortable all the time, not one that you just can’t wait to take off once you have finally reached the cafe or coffee shop. The body shape is perfect for riding or standing around to admire your machine, whether it is a rather tatty Kawasaki W650 with too many miles on the clock or a 1950s Norton ES2 which looks like it could tell a lot of stories if it could only speak.
This is a jacket that you can wear on the bike or off the bike, one which draws complimentary comments from other people, both motorcyclists and ordinary people. The cut, the way it works both on and off the bike are perfect, it’s the jacket you will reach for during the summer months above all others. And the reason? It has been designed by an enthusiastic designer who likes to ride and who can’t find clothing that does the job properly. All other jackets are compromises, this is the real thing. Try one on and you will be converted - but just don’t tell the herd - they will go to their local supplier and ask for the Hockliffe only to be offered - just another motorcycle jacket…
I wear a two-piece top-quality textile suit for most of the year - very handy when you are riding across the Isle of Skye in a blizzard! However, I needed a lighter weight summer jacket, to pair with some protective jeans I had recently bought. I have always been impressed with the quality of Ashley's clothing and when the Hockliffe jacket was announced I thought it would fit the bill perfectly. D30 armour was included in the price, so it made the buying decision very easy. The first try-on confirmed a perfect fit and the armour fitted easily and is almost unnoticeable when wearing the jacket.
I am impressed that the sleeves (which are a perfect length for me) don't seem to allow air to blow past my gloves, so the jacket doesn't balloon out at speed. The two larger breast pockets are really handy, and allow easy access to phone, wallet and spectacles. I've also noted that the material seems to be quite windproof, and even on a slightly chilly day, the cold is kept at bay. I rode on a really warm day(!) last week, and again the jacket kept me cool. The "Wind Release" system certainly works as designed, giving excellent temperature regulation. The neck closure is likewise excellent, and paired with a neck tube provides a really comfortable draught proof ride.
I opted for the Olive colour, which looks great paired with my blue denim protective jeans, and I'm impressed that the jacket receives such a high "AAA" safety rating - giving me more confidence in my clothing protection. The jacket also looks great off the bike as well. All in all a super, high quality garment which I hope will give me years of service. Highly recommended.
I have too much biker gear. A lot of it just hangs in the cupboard or only comes out occasionally. And then a few items that get picked again and again. My Hockliffe is one of those. I have had a MkI since 2019 and although it will last my lifetime I couldn't resist getting a MkII - my excuse was a different colour. Brilliant as an outer layer on milder days. Zip is windproof but if I need some ventilation I only use the buttons. When I travel I bring a foldable wind / waterproof outer jacket so the Hockliffe transforms into an insulating mid-layer if the weather worsens. Great design, superb quality and nice to wear off the bike too.
In use for several weeks, perfect fit, what I mostly like is that I hardly notice that I wear a jacket at all. Good position of the chest pockets, nice ventilation, however combined with a sweater also usable if a little colder (16°C). Protectors are hardly visible and noticeable when wearing. Classic and dressed appearance, I chose a size up so I could wear a sweater underneath, but even with only a t-shirt it still looks fitted. I'm 185 cm, 85 kg and wear a size XL.
The Hockliffe is a superb motorcycle jacket and after a few months of riding in it I can tell you why. Over the years I've had any number of jackets to suit my riding style and needs. Nearly all have come and gone quickly in that elusive search for 'the one', leaving a couple of wax cotton and leather favourites. But now I find those jackets remain hanging on the peg as I always reach for the Hockliffe. The tailoring and cut means it just feels ‘right’ when on the bike; it doesn’t bunch at the belly or pinch over the shoulders and the arm length is just about right. The jacket feels reassuringly heavy but even on the hottest day with a tee shirt underneath, you won’t notice that too much as the air flow is superb. The lining is soft and the armour sits perfectly. Undo a few buttons, open the zip, loosen the cuffs and the back still doesn’t balloon out at road speeds. Unlike lots of technical jackets, this is such an easy wear. The front pockets are deep and perfectly accessible. I’m a fan of the buttons and the armour pockets are eminently practical with their magnets to nip them closed. And the best bit for me is that it really doesn’t look like a bike jacket.
As for sizing, I think it’s generous. I’m 6 '1 with a 42sh inch chest and found the large a good fit with room for layers which you’ll need as the temperature drops back in autumn. But like me, you’ve probably got that covered with those other jackets that have been gathering dust during the warmer months. I do know one thing and that is I’ll be looking forward to getting the Hockliffe out again next year in the spring.
What can I say about the Hockliffe Jacket. I love it. I ordered a size medium and the cut and feel is perfect. Plenty of space to layer it or to just wear it in the hotter climates. Comes with protection and is AAA rated. It is perfect for wild adventures. I could see myself wearing it in all environments. And yet it is light enough to enjoy on the country lanes. Details throughout that hi-light the design. From magnetic clips, airflow cuts at the back through to really useful chest pockets. The jacket has been created with precision, design spec and yet is thoroughly understated.
Love it. Great cut, perfect fit - I'm 6'1" and 82kg. Medium fits me perfectly over a tee shirt or a woollen for summer days and evenings. Paired with the Killian Vest (Over) it extends this to maybe a three season jacket, although I've not yet tested this. It’s by far the best cut riding shirt/jacket I own. Improvements? Perhaps look to simplify the button cuffs with a zipper, not in line with the aesthetic or the military styling I know, but it might improve the jacket functionally from a 9.5 to a 10 :)
Good looking, purposeful yet stylish jacket that is extremely well made. Given it's (reassuring) weight I had some trepidations donning it for a ride in 31 degrees but can report that, unlike all other "summer jackets" that I have owned (and will now pass on), this one doesn't make you sweat before you get on the bike, and once riding it is cool in every sense of the word... If you own this and an Eversholt you need no other jacket, ever.
I have been wearing my Hockliffe since May. First impressions on receipt - it looked great, heavier than I thought it might be but still lighter than most other motorcycle jackets. Love the magnets on the pockets and the total absence of bloody velcro.
First ride out for the Hockliffe was the Oxford Distinguished Gentlemen. Yes, it was defo smart enough for the DGR when brand new! Now it has started to develop road-patina but I am sure it will wash well.
The fit is so comfortable on that you don’t notice you’re wearing it, making the ride even more enjoyable. The fit, the pockets, the choice of armour, the colour, the materials, the standard of the stitching together are all top, top quality.
Overall, a stunningly well-designed and well-made piece of kit - made even more impressive when you see it’s AAA safety rated. I would maybe change the buttons for brass poppers but now, with wearing in, I have started to be able to do them up with summer gloves on so not a big issue at all. Congratulations Ashley - it was worth the wait!
It really is an amazing product. The vent performed very well at motorway speeds - there was no ballooning of the jacket, even though it was partly unzipped. It also offered a welcome cooling flow of air. I can see myself wearing it, throughout the warmer parts of the year, on and off the bike. When I am not wearing that, I will be wearing my Eversholt MkII. To me your brand is all a modern classic riding motorcyclist needs!
Arrived today, looks great and the size is just what I wanted. I tried it out last night and the vent back worked perfectly. The sleeves are spot on too. It works great on a summer night with a t-shirt. Looking forward to the overshirt and t-shirt when they become available. The mention of trousers has got me intrigued!
My Hockliffe Jacket arrived on Saturday and I can’t tell you how happy I am with it. It has blown me away with the quality and the exact detail of the pockets for the armour with hidden magnets, just brilliant. The air vents worked a treat, went out for multiple rides over the weekend and it was perfect. No riding up to reveal my back, and arm length was perfect when reaching forward for the bars. Thank you so much for creating this jacket. Could not be happier.
Mate! You have excelled yourself! What a game-changer the new Hockliffe Jacket is! The quality, fit and comfort are totally on point. One very happy customer right here in Wales - well worth the wait to get it right!
My Hockliffe Jacket arrived this morning and I am very impressed with the quality and craftsmanship. I have already tried it out on the bike and it is just perfect, especially with the longer arms. The double button on the cuff also helps when just wearing the jacket as a day-to-day garment off the bike. I also like the new pocket arrangement with the pop studs and the magnetic fastening for the armour. Altogether a brilliant design.

Made from the world’s first rigid, single-layer abrasive resistant fabric; the Hockliffe is designed to be worn on and off the bike for six months of the year, every year, for life. Certified to Europe’s highest AAA rating, this jacket inspires confidence on two wheels.
Technical spec×
When developing the Hockliffe Jacket, we didn’t hold back. Using innovative Dyneema / Aramid ‘core-spun’ technology, we created the world’s first rigid, single-layer abrasive resistant fabric. Making the garment incredibly strong and durable, while also retaining the characteristics of a heavy-weight cotton twill used in heritage workwear. It will age better than any other abrasive resistant fabric used in motorcycle clothing.
This garment has been independently tested and certified to meet Europe’s highest AAA rating, making it one of the world’s safest textile motorcycle jackets. Impact protection, comes in the form of removable, highly flexible D3O Ghost armour at the elbow, shoulder and back (armour sold separately).
Across the back of the jacket, we have developed a unique ‘wind-release’ seam construction that allows air to flow + exit the garment without the bulk of a conventional zipped vent. Working like an inbuilt thermostat to keep you comfortable in warmer conditions, this feature is a design first in the protective motorcycle clothing industry.
The lined outer shell, is secured with a concealed Aquaguard zip that sits behind a row of corozo buttons. Side entry chest pockets allow for easy access and keep valuables secure. Two hand-warmer pockets come into their own when the engine stops. The sleeves are longer, keeping your wrists covered when reaching for the bars. A funnel neck and adjustable cuffs regulate wind entering the garment. As with all our products, the Hockliffe Jacket is finished with our signature AW monogram rivet.
